FAQ 1: Are the Wincott Awards free to enter?

Answer: Yes! There is no fee for entering yourself or nominating others for the awards.

FAQ 2: Can freelancers nominate themselves or be nominated by others?

Answer: Yes! Freelancers are very welcome to apply for the awards.

FAQ 3: Can an ongoing series be entered for the audio and video categories?

Answer: Yes – but your entry must consist of only one episode, broadcast in 2023. This can be accompanied by a synopsis describing the series as a whole.

FAQ 4: Are entries limited to one awards category?

Answer: No – you may apply for multiple categories within the same entry. For example, you can apply to be considered for the Data Journalism and Journalist of the Year awards.

FAQ 5: Do I have to work for a UK-based publication or be based in the UK to qualify?

Answer: No. However, please bear in mind the Wincotts are for work aimed primarily at a UK audience. We recommend explaining in your synopsis how the story is of interest to a UK audience.

FAQ 6: What criteria will judges be looking for when considering entries?

Answer: Our judges will put a premium on deep, original reporting and depth of understanding. The writing should be intelligible to the lay person while remaining authoritative.
