Stephen King, the best selling author and former chief economist and now senior advisor at HSBC, delivered the annual Wincott lecture on November 21 2023.
His timely lecture entitled ‘Inflation: Return of the Beast’ addressed the battle to curb price rises around the globe. CPI inflation in the UK which averaged 2 percent in the years 1997-2020 reached a peak of 11 per cent in 2022.
It has since fallen but Stephen explained why he expected inflation to remain above the Bank of England’s target of 2 percent for some time. The event was hosted by the Financial Times at Bracken House.
